Talmud: Rabbinic commentaries on the Old Testament.
Tanakh: The Jewish name for the Old Testament.
Targums: Aramaic paraphrases of the Old Testament.
tetragrammaton: The "four letters," YHWH, which in Hebrew is the personal name of God, commonly translated "LORD."
text type: A group of manuscripts that show similar characteristics.
textual critic: A person who studies manuscripts and their transmission and helps make decisions about which reading among the variants is most likely the correct one.
textual transmission: The process of manually transmitting a written text from copy to copy during the time period prior to the printing press.
textual-transmission stage: The stage in the development and transmission of a manuscript in which the text is copied meticulously and handed down in more or less unchanged form.
Textus Receptus: The "received text," an edition of the Greek New Testament which formed the basis of the King James Version.
three-recension theory: A theory of Old Testament text types which holds that there are three recensions of the Old Testament text. See local text theories.
transposition: A scribal error in which two letters are accidentally reversed.
